Twitter Friends
Twitter friends are a unique sort of friends. Sometimes I speak with my twitter friends more often than I do my “real” friends. When I have had the opportunity to actually meet one of my twitter friends I didn’t recognize them- I was expecting to see the crazy guy in the yellow glasses or whatever pic they have for their avatar on twitter. I have even met people who didn’t know they already knew me because my twitter name is not my real name. Although I speak with these twitter friends many times a day, when I meet a twitter friend in person, it’s like meeting a whole new person.
How can you keep up with your twitter friends when you are away from your computer? You could buy the latest cell phone, get a data plan, and purchase a cool twitter app to help you stay in touch. Not everyone has that sort of money to throw around. You could use the “free” text messaging service through Twitter- which is only free so far as your cell phone text messaging plan goes- but there is a glaring oversight in this: twitter does not send your @replies to you by text, even if they come from a twitter friend. You have to specifically tell twitter that you want to receive updates by text message from your friends, otherwise you won’t hear from them. Even with this you will receive every update of theirs, whether it is directed to you or not.
Your third option is to use @FeedTwit. This is a service that sends your @replies to you as direct message. If your phone is paired to your twitter account, you will then receive these replies as an SMS. All you have to do is follow @FeedTwit from your twitter account and it will send you a password. Take that password to the FeedTwit homepage and login, where you will tell it you want to receive your @replies from your twitter friends.
It’s that simple and you don’t have to buy a new phone or pay for a data plan in order to get your twitter @replies by text message! Give it a try today.
