What time of day do people use Twitter? Hourly Twitter Usage Statistics
There many reasons I can think of (and some, perhaps you can add) of why it would be useful to know the statistics that show what time of day most people use Twitter.
- Hourly Twitter statistics can show the ideal time to advertise on Twitter
- Hourly Twitter statistics can show the ideal time to service a Twitter app
The other day I realized something: FeedTwit, my free Twitter app, inherently accumulates these statistics. I could use them myself, which would definitely help me provide good service along with the Twitter replies to my customers, but I could also share these stats with other people using Twitter.
Free Twitter Apps that Send Your @ Replies
One of the best free Twitter apps is FeedTwit. This is because it fills a gap in Twitter’s service. Twitter is happy to send you text messages of people you are following whenever they update their profile, but you won’t get any message if someone else mentions you. FeedTwit is the only one of the free Twitter apps that can send your @ replies to you as texts.
Additionally this free Twitter app is superior because:
- Other Twitter apps require you to download a program to your phone. This app runs through text messages to your phone.
Can you use Twitter for SEO?
I have to admit my hesitancy to dive into Twitter- it always seemed so narcissistic. Once I started, however, I was hooked – so hooked that when twitter was attacked by the DoS the other day my first inclination was to check Twitter to see what happened! (D’oh)
More on Twitter SEO Link Building
Previously I talked about how you might use Twitter for SEO, specifically to help with link building. I forgot to mention another important part of building SEO through links using Twitter. There are a couple of sites that are mirroring Twitter updates. Some of these will actually take the link and expand it to show it with an appropriate anchor tag and a follow-link (the gold-standard of SEO link building because they are able to pass link juice).
How to stop twitter text messages
Twitter text messages are an important part of the Twitter experience, but not all of us have unlimited text messages with our cell phone. So, you ask, “How can I stop twitter text messages from coming to my phone?”
Twitter has a series of Twitter text commands that you can text message to Twitter by sending them to the number 40404 (this is the same number you will send a text message to if you simply want to post an update to your Twitter account; if you haven’t used Twitter before and send a text message to 40404, it will ask you to suggest a Twitter name for your account). Many of these text commands will allow you to stop Twitter text messages from coming to your phone. They include:
Twitter Friends
Twitter friends are a unique sort of friends. Sometimes I speak with my twitter friends more often than I do my “real” friends. When I have had the opportunity to actually meet one of my twitter friends I didn’t recognize them- I was expecting to see the crazy guy in the yellow glasses or whatever pic they have for their avatar on twitter. I have even met people who didn’t know they already knew me because my twitter name is not my real name. Although I speak with these twitter friends many times a day, when I meet a twitter friend in person, it’s like meeting a whole new person.
Twitter Replies
Twitter replies is what makes Twitter a useful social network. Without replies, Twitter is just a narcissistic way to tell people what you are doing- like they really care. But with Twitter replies people can engage with you- with replies telling you that you are being a narcissist, for example.
I have found the most useful part of Twitter is asking questions. The replies I get from my questions are usually very helpful. I try to follow people in my industry and they are very gracious to offer their constructive replies to what I am doing or any questions I might have.
Twitter Messaging
Twitter messaging is an important part of Twitter. Although I don’t think Twitter was initially designed for this (hence the question: “What are you doing?”), messaging is an important part of why many of use use this service. Twitter messaging is useful for a general invite somewhere, a question to your industry peers, or even a movie recommendation (or warning). Messaging is what Twitter is all about.
Twitter Messages: the types of twitter messages and when to use each one
Twitter messages are a great way to keep in touch with your friends- to know what they are doing, thinking, feeling at any given time. Although twitter messages are important I think we sometimes misuse them.
Basically there are two types of twitter messages- public and direct messages. The first type is simply an answer to the question, “what are you doing?” In that kind of twitter message we are broadcasting to the world the contents of our message.
The other type of twitter message is a direct message. This is a “for your eyes only” type of message. Not that twitter messages like these necessarily contain a secret, but that this is a person-to-person communication.
Palm Pre Twitter Software
As someone who has been programming palm software for about 10 years now I am really excited about the Palm Pre. I believe the hype that the Palm Pre will be the iPhone killer (or at least, maimer). When you combine my experience with Palm software with my recent obsession with Twitter it might make you wonder why I haven’t written some Palm Pre Twitter software or some sort of Twitter program for the Palm Pre.
